Getting it wrong
Miscomprehension is a failure to understand correctly—getting the wrong meaning from what you read or hear.
It differs from incomprehension (not understanding at all) in that you *think* you understand but don't: Her miscomprehension of the instructions led her to assemble it backwards.
The word is formal and relatively uncommon.
