mind like a steel trap
Catches every detail
A mind like a steel trap is one that grasps and retains information quickly and firmly—the way a trap snaps shut and holds its catch.
The phrase emphasizes both speed of comprehension and tenacity of memory: She has a mind like a steel trap; she never forgets a detail.
