midnight countdown
Final seconds, year's end
A midnight countdown is the communal counting down of seconds before the clock strikes twelve, most associated with New Year's Eve celebrations.
The crowd counts backward from ten as the moment approaches, culminating in cheers, kisses, and Auld Lang Syne: The whole bar joined in the midnight countdown.
