merit award
Earned distinction trophy
A merit award is recognition given for achievement, excellence, or outstanding performance rather than seniority or participation.
Schools give merit awards to high-achieving students; workplaces give them to employees who exceed expectations.
The term emphasizes that the honor was earned through demonstrated ability: She received a merit award for her research on climate adaptation.
