memory of a goldfish
Notoriously brief recall
A memory of a goldfish describes extremely poor short-term recall, from the popular myth that goldfish can only remember things for a few seconds.
Someone with a memory of a goldfish forgets things almost immediately: I have the memory of a goldfish—I walked into this room and forgot why.
The actual memory span of goldfish is considerably longer.
