meatpacking district

Industrial butchery zone

A meatpacking district is an area of a city historically dominated by slaughterhouses, butchers, and meat processing facilities.

Many such districts have gentrified into trendy neighborhoods with restaurants, galleries, and nightclubs while retaining the name: We're going to a club in the meatpacking district.

New York's Meatpacking District is the most famous example.
