Land zoning is the government practice of dividing a jurisdiction into districts and regulating what can be built or done in each.
Residential zones restrict commercial activity; industrial zones keep factories away from homes.
Zoning laws control building height, density, and land use: The land zoning here doesn't allow apartment buildings.
