land of opportunity
Where dreams flourish
Land of opportunity is a phrase used to describe a place—most often the United States—where people believe hard work and determination can lead to success regardless of one's origins.
The expression captures the idea that social mobility is possible and that newcomers can prosper.
My grandparents came to this land of opportunity with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
The phrase is sometimes used ironically to critique the gap between this ideal and actual economic realities.
