Knuckle-dragger is a derogatory term for someone perceived as brutish, stupid, or primitive—the image being of a person so ape-like they walk with their knuckles scraping the ground.
It's applied to people seen as thuggish or intellectually backward: The security guards were just knuckle-draggers in matching shirts.
The term also targets those with reactionary or unsophisticated views: Don't bother arguing with those knuckle-draggers.
