international call
Cross-border conversation
An international call is a telephone call made between parties in different countries.
The term dates from landline telephony, when such calls required special dialing codes and carried premium rates: International calls used to cost a fortune.
With internet-based communication, the phrase increasingly sounds dated, though it persists in mobile carrier billing.
