in the buff
Wearing absolutely nothing
In the buff means naked, without any clothes on: She was caught sunbathing in the buff.
The expression comes from buff meaning bare skin, possibly from the color of buff leather resembling flesh tones.
The phrase is informal but not vulgar—more playful than clinical.
