immunity agreement
Witness protection deal
An immunity agreement is a legal arrangement in which a prosecutor agrees not to bring charges against someone in exchange for their cooperation—typically testimony against others involved in the same crime.
The witness trades self-incrimination risk for usefulness to the case: She signed an immunity agreement before testifying against her former boss.
Immunity may be full or partial, protecting against prosecution for specific acts while leaving the person exposed for others.
