honor boxes
Trust-based purchase stations
Honor boxes are unattended collection containers that operate on the honor system—customers take merchandise and deposit payment without supervision.
Common at farm stands, newspaper racks, and roadside produce stalls: The honor box by the eggs had a slot for cash and a handwritten price list.
The system assumes basic human honesty, though theft rates vary.
