high commissioners
Commonwealth diplomatic representatives
High commissioners are diplomatic representatives of the highest rank exchanged between Commonwealth nations, equivalent in status to ambassadors.
Where most countries send ambassadors to each other, Commonwealth members—like the UK, Canada, Australia, and India—send high commissioners instead: The British High Commissioner to Australia met with officials in Canberra.
The term also applies to senior administrators of international bodies or colonial territories.
