happy clown
Joyful circus performer
A happy clown is a clown who performs in the traditional cheerful, entertaining style—bright colors, exaggerated smile, playful antics.
The phrase often appears in contrast to sad clowns or creepy clowns: She wanted a happy clown for the birthday party, not one of those scary ones.
It can describe anyone putting on an aggressively cheerful front: I can't keep playing happy clown when everything's falling apart.
