hammer on

Repeatedly stress point

Hammer on is a guitar technique where a note is sounded by forcefully pressing a fretting finger onto the string rather than picking it.

The finger "hammers" down to produce the note, creating a smooth, legato transition from a previous note: He hammered on from the fifth fret to the seventh.

The technique enables rapid passages that would be difficult to pick cleanly.
