A half volley is a shot in tennis, cricket, or soccer where the ball is struck immediately after it bounces, at the lowest point of its rise.
The timing requires quick reflexes—hit too early and you miss, too late and you've lost the advantage.
In tennis: She caught the return on the half volley and angled it past her opponent.
