grievable

Deserving of sorrow

Grievable describes something that can be grieved—either a loss worthy of mourning or, in legal and workplace contexts, a complaint that qualifies for formal grievance procedures.

The first sense asks whether a death or loss merits grief: Are some lives more grievable than others?

The second is bureaucratic: The policy change is grievable under the union contract.
