gonged
Tolled the bell
Gonged means struck with a gong, or more commonly, rejected or eliminated—from the television show *The Gong Show*, where bad acts were cut short by a gong.
In British slang, to be gonged is to be pulled over by police, from the bell once used to signal drivers to stop: I got gonged doing 90 on the motorway.
