female protagonists
Women driving stories
Female protagonists are the main characters of stories who happen to be women or girls.
The phrase often appears in discussions of media representation, where someone might seek out or celebrate works centering women's experiences: I'm looking for action movies with female protagonists.
The term can sound clinical compared to simply saying "heroines" or naming specific characters.
