federal workforce
National public servants
The federal workforce comprises all civilian employees of the United States government—those working for executive agencies, departments, and other federal entities.
It excludes military personnel but includes everyone from postal workers to park rangers to IRS agents.
Politicians sometimes target the federal workforce when calling for smaller government: proposals to reduce the federal workforce by 25 percent.
