fare gates
Ticket-reading entry barriers
Fare gates are turnstiles or barriers at transit stations that control access to paid areas.
Passengers tap a card, insert a ticket, or otherwise validate payment to pass through.
The gates prevent fare evasion by physically blocking entry until valid payment is detected: The fare gates were broken, so everyone walked through for free.
