fake birth certificate
Counterfeit origin record
A fake birth certificate is a fraudulent document that falsely records someone's birth details—name, date, parentage, or place of birth.
Such documents might be forged to establish false identity, conceal adoption, claim citizenship, or commit fraud.
The term also appears in conspiracy theories questioning public figures' legitimacy: birthers claimed Obama had a fake birth certificate.
