face slap
Palm meets cheek
A face slap is a slap delivered to someone's face—an act of sudden, stinging humiliation or rebuke.
The term emphasizes the target: She gave him a face slap he wouldn't forget.
Figuratively, any sharp public insult or rejection can feel like a face slap: The committee's dismissal was a face slap to the entire department.
