estate cars
Elongated family vehicles
Estate cars is the British term for what Americans call station wagons—vehicles with an extended rear cargo area and a rear door or hatch.
The name derives from large country estates, where such vehicles transported luggage and supplies.
We loaded the estate car with camping gear.
The singular estate car is more common.
