escape valve

Safety release mechanism

An escape valve is a mechanical device that releases pressure when it exceeds safe levels, preventing damage or explosion in boilers, pipelines, and pressurized systems.

Figuratively, an escape valve is any outlet for built-up tension or emotion: Exercise is my escape valve after a stressful day.
