Epic fail is internet slang for a spectacular or humorous failure—one so complete or absurd it becomes noteworthy: Tried to impress her by doing a backflip. Epic fail.
The phrase emerged from gaming culture in the 2000s and spread to describe any dramatic bungling, often with mock-serious emphasis.
