egg cleansing

Egg cleansing is a folk ritual for removing negative energy or diagnosing spiritual ailments.

A practitioner passes a raw egg over a person's body, believing it absorbs bad energy or curses.

The egg is then cracked into water and "read"—its patterns interpreted as evidence of what afflicted the person.

The practice has roots in Latin American curanderismo and similar traditions worldwide: My grandmother did an egg cleansing on me when I was sick.
