dummy pill
Inert medical decoy
A dummy pill is a placebo—a pill with no active ingredients, given to patients in clinical trials or medical settings.
In drug trials, one group receives the real medication while another gets dummy pills, allowing researchers to measure actual drug effects against the placebo response: Half the participants were given dummy pills without knowing it.
