dry cider
Tart apple alcohol
Dry cider is fermented apple juice with little or no residual sugar, producing a crisp, tart taste rather than a sweet one.
The dryness comes from allowing fermentation to continue until most sugars convert to alcohol: I prefer a dry cider with dinner.
In the UK, cider is alcoholic by default; in the US, the modifier "hard" often distinguishes it from sweet, unfermented apple cider.
