double-date
Two couples out
A double-date is a social outing where two couples go out together, typically for dinner, a movie, or some other activity.
The arrangement offers companionship and conversation beyond just the two people in each pair, and can ease the pressure of early dating by diluting awkward silences.
As a verb, to double-date is to participate in such an outing: We double-dated with my sister and her boyfriend last weekend.
