disinvest
Remove financial stake
To disinvest is to withdraw investment from a company, industry, or country—the opposite of invest.
The term often appears in political contexts where investors pull funds to pressure change: The university disinvested from fossil fuels.
Disinvestment can also describe letting infrastructure or public services decline through neglect: Decades of disinvestment left the schools crumbling.
