departure lounges
Pre-flight holding areas
Departure lounges are waiting areas in airports or ferry terminals where passengers stay after passing through security or check-in but before boarding their flight or vessel.
They typically contain seating, shops, restaurants, and boarding gates.
The atmosphere tends toward restless anticipation—travelers killing time with overpriced coffee, duty-free browsing, or anxious glances at departure boards.
We grabbed a drink in the departure lounge before our flight was called.
