departure gates
Where flights begin
Departure gates are the designated areas in an airport terminal where passengers wait to board their flights.
Each gate has a number or letter-number combination that appears on boarding passes and departure screens: Flight 247 to Chicago is now boarding at departure gate C12.
The term also applies to similar boarding areas in bus and train stations.
