deindoctrination
Undoing mental conditioning
Deindoctrination is the process of undoing indoctrination—freeing someone from previously instilled beliefs, often ideological or religious ones absorbed uncritically.
The term implies the original beliefs were imposed rather than chosen: The cult survivors underwent months of deindoctrination.
Unlike deprogramming, which suggests intensive intervention, deindoctrination may be gradual or self-directed.
