deep freezing
Subzero food storage
Deep freezing is preserving food or other materials by rapidly reducing their temperature to well below the standard freezing point, typically around -18°C (0°F) or colder.
The process locks in freshness better than ordinary freezing: Deep freezing the fish right on the boat preserves its quality.
As a noun, a deep freeze is both the appliance and, figuratively, a state of suspended activity or frigid relations: Negotiations went into a deep freeze.
