dark rooms
Film processing chambers
Dark rooms are spaces with little or no light.
A darkroom (one word) is specifically a photographer's workspace kept dark for developing film and printing photographs, using only safe red light that won't expose light-sensitive materials.
The plural dark rooms more often refers simply to rooms that are unlit: The children were afraid of dark rooms.
