crash bars
Panic door hardware
Crash bars are horizontal bars mounted across doors that open when pushed, allowing quick exit in emergencies.
Also called panic bars or push bars, they're required by building codes in commercial spaces to prevent crowd crushes during evacuations.
The mechanism releases the latch when pressure is applied: Everyone rushed the exit, slamming into the crash bars.
