component cable

Component cable is a type of video connection that splits the signal into three separate channels—typically one for brightness and two for color information—transmitted through three color-coded cables (red, green, and blue).

Common on televisions and DVD players before HDMI became standard, component cables delivered higher quality than composite connections: The old TV only has component inputs.
