comedy specials
Filmed joke performances
Comedy specials are standalone filmed performances by comedians, typically an hour of material performed before a live audience.
Unlike episodic television, each special is a self-contained event showcasing one comedian's act: Her Netflix special dropped last week.
The format has become the primary way comedians release and monetize their best material, functioning as career milestones that mark artistic evolution.
