colorpoints

Extremity-marked felines

Colorpoints are cats with a distinctive coat pattern: pale body fur contrasting with darker coloring on the face, ears, paws, and tail.

The pattern appears in Siamese, Himalayan, and other breeds.

The darker areas, called points, result from temperature-sensitive pigmentation—cooler extremities develop more color.

As an adjective, colorpoint describes this marking: a colorpoint shorthair.
