coiffe
Close-fitting head covering
A coiffe is a close-fitting cap covering the back and sides of the head, worn historically by both sexes but especially by women and by men under armor.
The word is archaic, largely replaced by coif.
To coiffe is to style or arrange hair—though coif is more common for this too: She had her hair coiffed for the wedding.
