climate engineering
Deliberate atmospheric modification
Climate engineering refers to large-scale technological interventions designed to counteract climate change.
The term covers two broad approaches: removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and reflecting sunlight to cool the planet.
Also called geoengineering.
The field remains largely theoretical, with proposals ranging from seeding oceans with iron to deploying mirrors in space.
Climate engineering carries risks we don't fully understand.
