citizen engagement
Public democratic participation
Citizen engagement is participation by members of the public in civic and governmental processes—voting, attending town halls, contacting representatives, or joining community initiatives.
The term appears frequently in policy discussions emphasizing that democracy requires more than passive citizenship: The city launched a citizen engagement platform for budget input.
Sometimes used as bureaucratic jargon for what might simply be called public participation.
