chosen instrument

Picked vessel, purpose-bound

A chosen instrument is a person selected by God or fate to carry out a divine purpose—a vessel through whom higher powers work their will.

The phrase appears frequently in religious contexts: Paul was God's chosen instrument to spread the gospel to the Gentiles.

Outside theology, it describes anyone singled out for a special mission or destiny, often with a sense of predestination.
