Alter your stride
Change step is a quick adjustment of footwork to get back in sync with a marching rhythm or dance pattern.
When soldiers or dancers find themselves out of step with others, they change step—typically a brief shuffle or skip—to match the group's cadence: The recruit had to change step twice before falling into rhythm with the platoon.
