Cat-back refers to an aftermarket exhaust system that replaces everything from the catalytic converter back to the tailpipe.
Car enthusiasts install cat-back systems to improve engine performance, reduce weight, or achieve a deeper exhaust note: I put a cat-back on my Mustang and it sounds amazing.
The catalytic converter itself remains in place, keeping the vehicle street-legal.
