boxing out
Blocking for rebounds
Boxing out is a basketball technique where a player positions their body between an opponent and the basket to gain rebounding position.
The player establishes a wide stance, makes contact with their back or hip, and keeps the opponent from reaching the ball: He boxed out the center and grabbed the rebound.
The technique extends metaphorically to any situation where someone uses positioning to gain advantage over competitors.
