blue funk
State of melancholy
A blue funk is a state of dejection or paralyzing fear.
The phrase combines blue (sad) with funk (a state of depression or cowardice).
Someone in a blue funk may be too anxious or dispirited to act: He's been in a blue funk ever since he lost his job.
The expression is somewhat old-fashioned.
