bait dogs
Trained aggression targets
Bait dogs are animals—typically dogs—used to train fighting dogs by serving as victims.
They are often stolen pets, strays, or dogs obtained through "free to good home" ads, then restrained or weakened so fighting dogs can attack them with little resistance.
The term appears in discussions of dogfighting cruelty and animal rescue: The pit bull was recovered as a bait dog, covered in scars.
